Summer Loving: A California Surf Couples Photoshoot in San Clemente

California summers are all about golden sunsets, ocean breezes, and unforgettable memories—and nothing embodies that vibe quite like a couples photoshoot in San Clemente. Nestled in the heart of Orange County, this coastal town is a paradise for surf lovers and romantics alike. When I had the opportunity to photograph a sun-soaked surf-inspired couples session here, I knew it would be a dreamy experience.

The Perfect Location: San Clemente’s Iconic Beaches
San Clemente is renowned for its stunning beaches, vibrant surf culture, and breathtaking coastal views. For this shoot, we chose a location near the iconic San Clemente Pier, where rolling waves and sandy shores set the stage for an intimate and playful session. We also chose a location that had amazing rock formations to give it a more unique feel.

With its golden sands, towering palm trees, and endless Pacific horizon, San Clemente offered the quintessential California summer aesthetic. The natural light during the golden hour added a magical glow, creating the perfect ambiance for capturing love by the ocean.

The Couple: Surfside Love Story
The couple, Nancy and Kai, embodied the carefree, adventurous spirit of California surf culture. Their chemistry was undeniable, and their playful energy made every moment feel authentic. The shoot was a collab between me and my photo bestie Jacqueline Beth Photography. Working together to create these documentary moments was truly so much fun. 

As a photographer, my goal is to capture not just moments, but emotions. This session was filled with laughter, love, and a deep connection to the ocean. Here are a few highlights:

Playful Water Shots: The couple splashed in the shallow waves, creating candid moments that showcased their joy and adventurous spirit.
Golden Hour Glow: As the sun dipped closer to the horizon, the sky transformed into hues of orange, pink, and gold. This warm light provided a stunning backdrop for intimate portraits of Alex and Jordan.
Surfboard Snuggles: Posing with their surfboards under the pier, the couple’s love for each other—and the ocean—shone through.
Silhouette Shots: Against the backdrop of the setting sun, I captured dreamy silhouettes of the couple holding hands and sharing a kiss. These images truly encapsulated the essence of summer love.
